  THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM

The Business Administration program covers the integrated approach and interrelationship among the functional areas of business as well as sensitivity to the economic, social, technological, legal and international environment in which business must operate. It is an interdisciplinary and problem-focused program comprised of five integrated elements:

1. General Education courses,
2. Basic business core,
3. Business education core,
4. Professional/Elective courses, and
5. Internship/Work Integrated Learnings.

Each business major consists of course designed to develop the critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, quantitative and computer skills needed by graduates to successfully serve as leaders in business organizations.

The program also addresses contemporary organizational issues such as global competition, continuous quality improvement, good governance, and the relationship between organizations and various environmental forces which are key components of global economy.

A distinctive feature of the program is that the majority of upper-level courses include a practical project component, offering the opportunity to apply the problem-solving theories and concepts learned in the classroom to real situations.

Extensive opportunities are available for students to meet business professionals and gain practical experience.

  DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES

The Department of Business Administration aims to achieve the following objectives:

1. To develop socially-responsive Business Administration students equipped with the academic discipline of San Carlos Borromeo with the commitment of being witnesses to the WORD;

2. To develop socially-responsive Business Administration graduates with broad liberal education and adequate training in the functional areas in management, marketing, production, and finance of business operations preparing them for entrepreneurial and employment responsibilities;

3. To widen the options of business students in the choice of a business career by offering relevant and transformative business courses in addition to its existing programs;

4. To facilitate access to opportunities for students to apply business, environmental, legal and social principles and theories through a practicum requirement integrated in the curriculum;

5. To deliver timely instructional materials using current teaching methods and technology to meet the growing needs of business and community;

6. To deliver educational services to other departments and colleges in the university by offering courses in the functional areas of business operations;

7. To provide opportunities and resources to faculty and students for life-long learning, research, and community extension projects in order to improve their teaching-learning skills and social responsibility for the common good;

8. To support the activities of the student organization, the Society of Young Business Executives (SYBE), complementing the Business Administration curriculum;

9. To ensure the integration of the tenets of personal and professional integrity in all courses of the curriculum; and

10. To develop and maintain linkages with professional and private business associations, local and national government agencies, with other colleges in the university, and with the Alumni of the Department.


  PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The objective of the program is not simply to impart basic knowledge, but to instill and nurture important qualities and skills in our students that are essential for future business leadership and organizational success.

GRADUATES OF THE BSBA PROGRAMS should be able to:
  • Develop a wholesome personality.
  • Participate actively in business associations and comply with their policies and obligations.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, civic-mindedness and responsible citizenship.
  • Conduct environmental scanning.
  • Conduct feasibility study and other business research/plan.
  • Explain the concepts, approaches, and techniques of environmental conservation.
  • Know and understand the country’s national development thrusts, concerns, and socio-economic indicators.
  • Convey ideas clearly both oral and written in English.
  • Prepare, analyze, and evaluate reports, proposals and concept papers.
  • Demonstrate the values of fairness, transparency, accountability, hard work, honesty, patience, diligence, innovativeness and risk taking.
  • Apply the principles of different forms of communication.
  • Develop the ability to access, retrieve and disseminate information using IT.
  • Perform Quality work.
  • Understand the concepts and principles of good interpersonal relations.

  PROGRAM RATIONALE

In accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994,” and for the purpose of rationalizing undergraduate education in business administration in the country with the end view of keeping pace with the demands of local and international business environment to become globally competitive, requiring all private higher education institutions as per CHED CMO No. 17 Series of 2005 and CHED CMO No. 39 Series of 2006 to adopt respectively the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and the five core (5) programs of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in major areas of: Human Resource Development Management, Marketing Management, Financial Management, Operations Management and Business Economics.
